On our last day in Sri Lanka, we found ourselves searching for a decent place to have our last supper before our flight home. We very unexpectedly stumbled upon The Bavarian, a German pub in the heart of Colombo. Interestingly, that the Bavarian is renown for serving the delicious food since 1983, when it was established. The pub is situated near the Galle Face Terrace in Colombo 3.
The pub was surprisingly very busy for a school night in my books , most of the patrons seemed to be those grabbing an after work drink and meal.
The menu was continental with a few Germanic food offerings. I was craving a steak and was recommended the Woodcutter steak by the very friendly waiter. This cut is a local beef cut accompanied by sauteed onions and mushrooms, french fries, vegetables and salad. I was pretty gobsmacked when my dish came. It was humongous. I guess that’s all German dishes, the portions are extremely generous.
Needless to say the steak hit all the right spots and satisfied my cravings with its juicy succulent flavors and they got my “well done” perfect, juicy yet cooked through. Judge me all you want you “medium rare” people. This meme sums up my feelings about all of yall 🙂 No punches please.
I am a firm believer that good food takes time to prepare. We waited about 25 to 30 minutes for our food, I can’t complain because we were served complimentary fresh rolls and butter. I wish I hadn’t filled up on these because my meal was ginormous.
Hubby ordered the Mixed grill platter which came with a variety of grilled meats including chicken, pork and beef . Again we were amazed by the portions. The platter was delicious.
I was eyeing the desert menu but my stomach thoroughly disappointed me by reaching capacity. Next time Rum and Raison pudding. Next time. I found the prices were extremely reasonable and the value for money was unquestionable. The food was delicious, the service great and the ambiance very lively and bustling.
Great work keep it up guys.
