Ras Al Khaima (RAK), an hour away from Dubai offers an alluring and convenient opportunity for that quick weekend escape from the city. RAK is famous for the myyriad resorts located on the warm and inviting shores of the Arabian Gulf. The Cove Rotana was our destination and having heard such raving reviews about the resort, I was nothing short of excited to finally experience the hotel.
Approaching the resort, you are greeted by traditional Arabic themed buildings that posses a subtle sense of beauty and grandiosity.
Valet and concierge are prompt to tend to guests upon arrival, leaving your car and bags in their capable hands. Such attention and efficiency from the outset from valet and concierge is a sure sign of an establishment’s overall take on client focused service.
Check in We were ushered into a spacious lobby to check in.
The lobby area is feet away from a seating area leading to al fresco space overlooking the breathtaking sea views.
We were greeted by an enthusiastic lady at the front desk who assisted us and in under 5 minutes we were checked in-what a breeze. Note:Check in is at 3pm. Pretty impressive if you ask me. She handed us our room keys, an explanation of the resort map and amenities and called us a buggy awaiting us to take us to our lodgings for the night.
The property occupies a massive space and is made up of a mixture of either one, two or three bed roomed villas for that perfect family/ group weekend away and individual rooms.
The high dome shaped Ottoman inspired ceiling and soft tourqoise wall catches your attention immediately and creates a very cosy and homely ambiance.
The room was reasonably spacious but smaller than I had expected considering the pictures on the website but was nonetheless lovely and charming.
A lazy comfy couch sits in front of a mobile TV. A mini bar fridge and complimentary tea, coffee and bottled water are available and the customary safe, gown and slippers and oh yes, what would any stay be without the free wifi to keep you posting those awesome pics online.
Freshly stocked fresh towels can be found in a spacious bathroom.
Our friends stayed in the three bed roomed villa with a splash pool.
There are two infinity pools on your way to the beach area, a walking distance down the demarcated foot paths.
Crossing the lagoon separated villas reminds one of a tropical paradise with pine trees, leading up to the beautiful warm sea.
The breakers beach bar situated right on the doorstep of the beach serves food and drinks while you watch the sun set. The scenery is enough to make you sing Hakuna Matata as your sip on a chilled beer.
Despite the property having about six dining outlets, due to sheer laziness, we decided to order in. We ordered three plates of the Chicken Alfredo. The food took a while to arrive and an hour later made an appearance (In all fairness we were informed that it would take roughly an hour). The alfredo was a major disappointment and left a bad taste in my mouth, pun intended.
The next day, I was eager to dig into delicious breakfast because of my rather unsatisfying dinner the night before. We headed to Cinnamon Restaurant to feast on what looked like an array of breakfast options to bust the fiercest of hungers.
I had the lovely chef Christina make me a delicious egg and went around to fill my plate with sausage, veal bacon and salmon. I took a side plate of pancakes topped with strawberry and maple sauce…and a dollop of cream…sounds delicious doesn’t it? Well as much as I wish it was, the food besides the eggs and the sausage was a huge let down.
I tried going to sample the pastry section thinking the doughnuts will surely make up for my disappointment but alas, they tasted stale. The nutella crepe I sampled from my husband was a saving grace, but then again, you cant go wrong with nuttella. The coffee was nothing special and the service at the restaurant super slow. Sadly I left breakfast hungrier than I had come. Food really makes an experience and unfortunately the food experience put a real damper on my experience.
Whenever we called reception for absolutely anything, someone would arrive no later than 4-5 minutes later to assist us promptly. Every single employee I came across was not only helpful but did so with a kind smile. Their service is excellent and really focuses on guests needs. I really loved the service.
They have a gym, a spa as well as a kiddies zone to keep the young ones plenty entertained.
Value for money 3.5/5
Overall I rate them a 3.5 and would I come back? Of course yes, the property offers luxury and an excellent stay with plenty to do at a reasonable price. The food is just the one thing I would recommend improve drastically.
Happy roadtripping 🙂
