Wanderlust is defined as a strong irresistible, impulsive desire to travel or longing to wander. This segment features a Q&A with wanderlusters from all around the world who have explored this beautiful earth and have very interesting and valuable insights to share with us.
Hoping you will be inspired to go out there and wander…Meet my friend Vari Chimombe, a witty and beautiful free spirit based in Qatar. Vari has travelled over 25 cities and gives new meaning to spontaneous and adventure. Two things Vari does well is drink lots of tea and globe-trot.
So tell us a bit about yourself, where you’re from, what you do etc? I am a proud Zimbabwean hailing from Harare. I am working in Qatar for Qatar Airways as a Leadership development Trainer. I am amazing, always up for an adventure and genuinely love and interacting with new people.
What three things do you enjoy most about travelling?I love seeing new places, eating interesting food especially delicacies specific to the place I am visiting. The best part is meeting new people and telling them about my country and learning about local customs.
Weirdest/ most fun thing that has happened to you on a flight.I met a physiotherapist on my flight to Venice. He was travelling with a national basketball team. We ended up sitting next to each other and other travelers thought we were a couple and we kept asking us to visit their countries. It was fun because for an entire flight we were a newly married couple traveling the world:)
Favorite destination and why?It is a little bit cliche but Paris. I have wanted to visit since I was a child and standing in front of the Eiffel Tower for the first time brought tears to my eyes. I have never seen anything so beautiful.
Most memorable/ fondest/funniest travel memory? Most memorable was a recent trip to Stockholm. I was taking pictures of swans and one of the locals approached me and decided to take me on a walking tour of the old town. Simply breathtaking, just a Swede wanting to show someone else his beautiful city.
What travel tips that have proven valuable on your travels? I think be open minded, always ask for directions and be try your best to learn a few words of the local language.
Do you prefer planned tours or making your own plans. What works for you?I prefer to travel and make plans on my own. OK that isn’t entirely true, my colleagues usually point out a the key places to see and I just go and see:)
What is your biggest fear about travelling? My biggest fear (which hasn’t come true, is going somewhere where people are unfriendly)
Where’s your next destination?Tough one, Munich/Luxembourg I am not sure
Best dish so far on your travels? Curryworst!! I am sure I am not spelling that correctly but it was a hotdog I had in Berlin:)
Some people think travelling is a waste of time and money how would you convince them otherwise?I would show them all my pictures and videos and explain that had I not been a traveler I would probably have nothing to talk about.
Do you prefer travelling alone or in a group? Why?I usually travel alone, more freedom and less compromising on certain things I love that most people would find a waste of time.
What do you do in your spare time?I usually go out for lunch or tea and cake:) anything that involves yummy treats and a friendly environment.
What is your motto in life. Inspire us 🙂 So much tea to drink in so many different countries:) GIMME!!!!
