You really wouldn’t give this place a second look! It looks like one of those corner cafeterias that sell shawarmas and quick bites. But trust me, this is a place you want to find. Harput is an authentic Turkish Restaurant, situated in the hustle bustle of Barsha close to the Novotel Hotel. I found this hidden gem almost two years ago, and each time i go, it feels like the first time! Its that good, plus their hospitality is like no other ! I have been a bit of a snob after tasting food in Istanbul but this place has restored my faith in good food.
The interiors are simple and unassuming.
As always, we were greeted very jovially by the waiters, they have the biggest smiles I have come across. The chefs working behind the open kitchen are forever jovial and smiling as they go about passionately creating tantalizing dishes.
See they gave me some meat to try, the smells were overwhelmingly delicious.
We had for starters the Russian salad with the warm Turkish bread. The bread is complimentary and baked fresh and tastes like mamas baking.
The turkish pizza with meat cubes and capsicum is the nearest thing to heavenly.
The mixed Turkish grill is my usual order, It is more than enough for two. It is made up of an array of fried mince in herbs, lamb kofta, chicken kebabs, lamb chops and beef kababs served with onions tomato and sour cabbage and Arab bread. I am fussy about fresh meat but seldom worry here.Their meat is always perfectly grilled and spiced and literally glides off the bone the freshness of the food is unparalleled.
I also tried the Iskander, which is prepared from thinly cut grilled lamb basted with hot tomato sauce over pieces of pita bread and generously slathered with melted sheep butter and delicious yogurt. The succulent, juicy slices of meat literally melt in your mouth. This meal was perfection. The schwarma is also a hit if you want to grab a quick nibble on the go.
The food here is tasty and so filling due to their generous portions. Thier turkish tea is strong and simply divine.
The next time you are in Al Barsha be sure to be on the look out for Harput. Guaranteed satisfaction. The prices here are very reasonable considering the excellence of the food. Keep up the great work guys.
