I think I may have found the best Souvlakia in town at Mythos. This branch is located in the newly opened Mall of the South, Johannesburg and offers unbelievable delicious food and excellent service. The restaurant was filled with people chatting away jovially whilst sipping on refreshing drinks to ward off the midday heat.
The restaurant had a very relaxed atmosphere decked with white tables and chairs in the al fresco dining area and wooden inside furniture inside. There is a bar in the middle of the restaurant which I found rather charming. The overall décor was simple yet classy, they pulled it off really well.
I had a frozen Margarita, which packed a good punch, it was rather strong for my liking but I downed it anyways.
I also had the Strawberry Daiquiri which was perfectly blended. A refreshing drink for those lazy afternoon go slows.
I ordered the pork Souvlakia, skewers of marinated meat in olive oil and herbs. The presentation of the meal was not only beautiful and tantalizing. The food tasted matched the way it looked. The meat was succulent, the juices infused with delicious herbs culminating into tender mouthwatering bites. It was simply scrumptious and so so fresh. I had my meal with a side of potatoes and pita bread and tzatziki sauce. The potatoes were equally as tasty and not too soft.
My sister had the vegetable moussaka dish comprising eggplant, butternut and potato layers baked with béchamel sauce served with a Greek salad. This was also a massively flavorful explosive dish. The flavors produced by the combination of vegetables and the spices and off course the creaminess of the sauce made this dish simply divine. I appreciated the fact that the béchamel sauce was rich but not overbearingly so. My sister thoroughly relished this dish. I must say if I was vegetarian this is all I would eat
For dessert I had the Greek yogurt with Turkish delight topping. The froyo had a lingering tanginess and was deliciously paired with the sweet sauce. I dis however find it too syrupy and sweet. I think it should be toned done just a little.
Overall a delicious gastronomic experience that really left me all kinds of happy, well it could have been all the Daiquiris…
Maybe it’s a Greek thing but I really liked the customer oriented approach they have in regularly checking on patrons to check whether they are enjoying their food. I find this lacking in most establishments so Brava in doing that. Excellent staff who are knowledgeable and very efficient. Despite the busy crowd, we were well attended. Prices are justifiable and reasonable taking into account the quality of food.
I strongly recommend this place. Efharisto!!
