One of my favorite things in life has to be road trips. Can I get a heck yeah?
There’s something fascinating about long stretch of tar road, singing out loud to favorite tracks( in or out of tune) ,gazing out at the beautiful sights, talking and just being around with people who make you laugh. It’s a combination of all these things that excite me about road trips.
Lomli, my partner in crime loves roadtrips just as much as I do, I honestly couldn’t have wished for a better companion.
Lomli and I booked a one night stay for a quick weekend breather at the beautiful Hilton Resort and Spa in Ras Al Khaima. Armed with Google Maps, we were ready to yallah Lets go!
Where’s that I hear you say…well RAK City (as I endearingly like to call it) is one of the 7 Emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates. It’s about an hour and a half drive from Dubai.
So road tripping in the UAE is not as green and lush as one would expect because technically it’s all desert, dunes and camels.
But one thing is for sure, sunsets in the dessert are the most breathtaking. We had a fun time driving down, our music blaring in the background, wind in our hair. The desert is gorgeous in its own right.
The one thing I adore about RAK city is that it is a beautiful contradictions. There are some parts, which reminds me of a quaint rustic town with grocery shops plastered here and there.
And then there are parts that boast seaside Majestic Hotel chains such as Marjan Resort and spa (write up coming soon) and the magnificent Waldorf Astoria and beach boardwalks.
RAK city is no doubt a refreshing welcomed getaway from the bright lights and busyness of Dubai. Even though we were gone for just one night that was enough to invigorate us.
We set off on a Friday afternoon after church and reached the hotel by 3 pm. The concierge was absolutely amazing. I won’t forget how Richard made us feel so welcome and special. The customer service here was absolutely amazing. Hilton Hotel Resort and Spa feels luxurious as you enter.
The hotel was rather busy however we were promptly assisted by friendly lady at the front desk. We wanted a room one a higher floor so the lady asked us if we would wait a few minutes while they prepared one for us. I didn’t mind at all.
We were offered a complimentary drinks voucher for the Dome lounge while we waited.
As we walked out to the terrace, we were met with beautiful sea views of the Arabian peninsula and the mountains, palm trees, deck chairs, sun kissed sand and a huge pool area. I couldn’t wait to put on my cossie and be one with the sea.
We were called when our room was ready, Richard was ready again to assist us to our room. We got to our room on the third floor and were so pleasantly surprised. It was better than it looked on the website. Dark wood furnishings, beautiful huge bed that we couldn’t help jumping on. I really liked the spaciousness of the superior room that had its own balcony with charming views of the pool area.
Knowing we had direct access to the beach was great. We got changed almost immediately and headed down to the beach to wade in the warm Arabian Sea and catch the sun set. It was really breathtaking. I loved the tranquility of an empty beach.
We decided to take a little drive and found a maandi place. I was craving some so this was perfect. We headed back to the hotel then had a lovely walk on the beach and ended up at XO Bar till the early hours of the morning for a drink and some dancing to a live band.
Our stay included breakfast, which was served at Maarid Restaurant.
Although quite bustling, breakfast was a fully-fledged affair, with options ranging from traditional bacon and eggs, croissants, pastries, cereal and other healthy options. This continental buffet catered for everyone.
We walked down to beach area, plonked ourselves on some beach chairs under the shade of a parasol as we read away and became one with the sun.
Our intention was minimal activity but if you are up for some adventure, there are plenty of water sports available such as scuba diving, jet skis.
Tennis courts, volleyball or even gym if you will. Apparently the hotel also has Turkish baths too, if you’re looking for a pampering Hammam experience.
What a lovely short and enjoyable and energizing stay. Thank you
