I found out that the German word Treff means “get together” or rendezvous, a meeting place if you like. What an apt and lovely name for this place. I liked the menu of the day sign posted as you enter the restaurant as is the norm in most European cities.
The restaurant is as spacious as it is homely, it had a chilled out and comfortable vibe that could lure you in to stay for hours.
With splashes of lime green chairs and white tables
A pool table available offers something to keep you occupied while relaxing or waiting for food.
If you are worried about your kids and what they will do while you are taking a bit of a time out, don’t fret, there is a lovely play area where the kids will be plenty entertained.
The restaurant was rather quiet when we went, I am hoping that it was due to the fact that it was a weekday, such a great restaurant shouldn’t be empty. The inconspicuous location of the restaurant really does it a disservice. Had Treff not been recommended to me, I doubt I would have stumbled upon it. Needless to say it’s a hidden gem in Sports City.
There are a variety of breads, health drinks, bars, snacks and cakes on display, from muffins to traditional German desserts such as plum butter and apple cake.
The service was lovely and efficient, our waiter Joel was helpful in recommending a few dishes. Our order was:
Beef Schnitzel with mash potato. You could choose from a variety of sides such as salad or potato salad or grilled vegetables.
Also ordered a Waygu beef burger with fries. So much for ordering healthy
We ended up taking the food as a take away as we were in a bit of a rush.
The verdict? The Schnitzel and mash were as homely as you could get. The coating on the schnitzel was a tad too thick but scrumptious nonetheless, the beef was tender and delicious and well flavored. The mash potatoes absolutely smooth, creamy and decadent. What I liked about this dish was that it didn’t feel greasy and unhealthy but more nutritious and delicious as you would make it at home.
The waygu beef burger was phenomenal. The burger was a plain traditional, with no extra toppings but just pickles, tomato and lettuce and sauce. I don’t think I have had such a mouthwatering burger in a long time, the patty was not only fresh and tasty but oozed delicious juices. It was the type of burger that needed no fancy condiments to make it work. Really impressive flavors with a fresh and soft bun enough to make you scream “I want more”.
The quality of the food ingredients is evident in every bite of the food. Their prices are really affordable and well worth the value for the quality of food that is offered. I hear they have an amazing buffet which I am keen to try. I will definitely be dining at Treff in the very near future.
