La Farine is situated on the Ground Floor of the JW Marriot Marquis Hotel.
Upon entering I was greeted warmly by a hostess named Aigol who showed me to the waiting area where my friend was waiting for me.
The room not only embodies class and sophistication, the dim lights and mirrors create an intimate and comfortable atmosphere. We were led to the main dining area by our hostess.
As we walked to our table in the main dining area, the pastries and beautiful cakes from the bakery tempted us from all directions.
There is a live baking station where chefs are busy at work creating delicious baked fresh goods. The bakery felt like those traditional bakeries/ patisseries you see in Paris. The smells lingered in the air, smells so fresh you could taste them.
I felt like I was in my mother’ kitchen. It felt like I was in a bakery one minute and then in the next, a beautiful chic dining space. What an interesting contrast.
The place was lovely, high ceilings with curtains that drop, mirrors adorn the high walls. I love high ceilings for the simple fact that they give the impression of stature and grandeur. The lime green seats add a playful touch to the dark contemporary décor.
Our waiter Hein was truly amazing. He was knowledgeable, friendly and patient in explaining the menu and suggesting dishes for us. He also informed us that La Farine is open 24 hours and they get pretty busy usually between 2am and 5 am as all the party revelers return famished from dancing the night away. This is good to know as there are such few 24 hour decent places to eat at in Dubai.
To drink I had a Lemon and Mint Mock tail which had a tinge of orange blossom. I found it truly delicious and refreshing.
My friend had a Crime of passion which is a passion fruit blend, equally refreshing and tasty.
It being a bakery we were treated to warmly fresh oven baked bread served with pesto and butter. No words can describe the melt in your mouth beautiful sensation.
For mains my friend ordered the meal of the day which was chicken in a barbeque sauce served on a bed of mashed potatoes. The dish came with a side of creamy mixed vegetables baked in a little pot with a delicious crust. It was so rich and decadent. It also came with a side of salad. Altogether a hearty scrumptious meal.
I opted for the herbed baby chicken, served with roast potatoes accompanied by a salad. My chicken tasted like it was thoroughly marinated to the bone. I loved the garlic flavor that seemed to burst through. The potatoes where crispy yet tenderly well cooked. The salad, fresh and so flavorful.
We were so full and thought of skipping dessert, however, this would be a travesty so we headed on down to the bakery and selected our deserts. There are wide selections of desserts from macaroons to meringues to cheesecakes.
There is also a wide selection of wines and cheeses displayed for sale.
We choose the honey cake, chocolate and pistachio cake and a whole-wheat cookie.
The chocolate pistachio decorated with a little macaroon was a winner for me, the dark chocolate balanced the slightly sweeter pistachio mousse. The honey cake I found bland and had wished they used cream cheese instead. The cookie was crunchy and tasted healthy. Not!
Overall such excellent service and great quality food which is reasonably priced for such an establishment. I do however wish there was more to offer as main course. Thank you for a great dining experience.
